What are Mentor Texts?
Mentor texts are not just any book! They’re any high-quality text (or piece of text) that can be read, and re-read! Mentor texts can come in a wide range of forms – picture books, poems, newspaper articles, song lyrics, comic strips, manuals, essays, film, novels… Almost any high-quality visual, auditory, or written text can be a mentor text!
With a keen eye for quality, we here at Teacher Ed know how to source the best books for the classroom and know that mentor texts can really pack a punch! Whilst any text can serve as a mentor, we have curated our favourite picture books that best serve teachers in the primary and elementary classroom. With a limited word count, authors of picture books create some of our favourite mentor texts to share with students all the way across their schooling journey.
